Green Mountain Roots
Our family’s roots run deep in the Vermont soil.  Mandy's parents and family history date back to 1789; where they actively dairy farmed in Franklin and West Berkshire.
Mark’s parents moved from Quebec to Vermont, and are first generation immigrants.  They farmed the family dairy in Richford until they retired in 2005.  Mark fell in love with the lifestyle as a young boy raising and selling heifers. He began making syrup in his family garage on a small maple system.  He would tap the trees in school and haul the sap back to boil . In 1986, as a new couple, they started their own dream and began farming.  As the family grew of three children; so did the vision for the future and in 1998 the main dairy was built.   Mark and Amanda  celebrated the accomplishment of passing the dairy into the next generation with the creation of PVF of Berkshire, LLC and Jamie and Bradley becoming partners. They will join past generations with their passion for agriculture and stewards of the land that their grandparents cared for.

Our family’s roots run deep in old tradition of making Vermont Pure Maple Syrup as they would hitch up their horses to the sleds as they made their way to the woods each spring to collect sap for boil.  My father would often reminisce of the sweet smell in the air as the traditional boil began. Today our family manages different sugarbushes around our dairy farm and boil it all at the sugarhouse seen above.  We are certified Organic Maple Syrup and work with our team to ensure that the health of our trees and quality of our syrup is protected.  We now sell the sweet organic maple nectar of Vermont’s trees to consumers around the world and have enjoyed providing yet another pure, healthy product. Berkshire Cow Power

Picture
In 2006 the St Pierre family became the 2nd in the state to develop and construct an anaerobic methane digester.  This digester has produced at its peak power for around 700 homes.  The process takes the  manure, keeps the temperature at about 102 degrees and captures the gas. That gas is burned through two generators and creates electricity.  The by product is the manure which is separated from the solids in which the pathogens are 98% killed off in the process. The solids are used for bedding of our cows, and for gardens and nursery centers to help grow flowers and vegetables.

The equipment in this process has aged and is in need of a major overhaul which makes it the perfect time to join forces with Bellevue RNG, LLC who will upgrade and update the system and convert the process to  eliminate the generators and make natural gas.  This upgrade and conversion offers many positive attributes for our dairy, our community and our state.  Check it out at https://www.novillarng.com/.
If I sound proud to be a farmer, it is because I am.  I am proud that my family for generations has been able to adapt and evolve to meet the demands of our society.  From the great depression through the pandemic we produced secure and reliable food, generated economic value to our community, continued to be stewards of the land and produced renewable energy."  Amanda St Pierre
